Modern Si Dian Jin: Exquisite Jewelry Steeped in Tradition

As part of the Chinese wedding tradition, Si Dian Jin（四点⾦ ）is a betrothal gift from the groom’s mother to the bride as a form of blessing and welcome into the family. Si Dian Jin（四点⾦ ）means four touches of gold, usually comprising a necklace, bangle or bracelet, ring and a pair of earrings made from gold.

The designs incorporated in a Si Dian Jin set are often symbolic, such as a dragon, phoenix, or cranes; they can also be in the form of calligraphy – a common one being ‘fu’ (福), which means ‘blessing’. Another common design is a lucky pattern called ‘pa sau’ (十三), meaning ‘thirteen’ in Cantonese, which is said to bring good fortune.
