Modern Si Dian Jin: Exquisite Jewelry Steeped in Tradition
A curated collection of Si Dian Jin sets crafted in 18K gold, designed for the bride who values both heritage and the way a piece will wear over a lifetime.
The Meaning Behind the Tradition
Si Dian Jin, translated as “four touches of gold,” is one of the most enduring customs in a Chinese wedding. At the betrothal ceremony, or Guo Da Li, the groom’s mother presents the bride with four gold jewelry pieces as a formal act of welcome into the family and a blessing for a harmonious marriage ahead.
A complete Si Dian Jin set comprises four pieces: a necklace, a pair of earrings, a bangle or bracelet, and a ring. Together, they represent wholeness and harmony in the union to come. Traditionally crafted in 22K or 24K yellow gold, these sets carried auspicious motifs drawn from Chinese symbolism: the dragon and phoenix for a perfect union, the double happiness character (囍) for joy, the crane for longevity, and the bat and peach for good fortune.
How the Tradition Has Evolved
Today’s brides in Singapore often seek pieces that carry the same cultural weight but work beyond the wedding day — jewelry suited to dinners, celebrations, and the quieter rhythms of married life.
This has led to a shift toward 18K gold, which offers greater durability and broader design possibilities than the softer traditional karats. Gemstone accents such as sapphires, rubies, tourmalines, and the refined brilliance of lab-grown diamonds or moissanite have become natural additions, introducing color and character while leaving the symbolism entirely intact.
The result is a modern Si Dian Jin that honors what the tradition has always meant, expressed through the design language of the present.
HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT SET
- Gold tone. 18K gold in yellow, white, or rose offers the best balance of richness and everyday durability. Yellow gold stays closest to tradition; white gold reads as more contemporary; rose gold sits warmly between the two. The right choice will complement the bride’s complexion and coordinate naturally with her wedding gown.
- Gemstone or plain gold. A plain gold set carries a clean, timeless aesthetic. A set with gemstone accents — whether sapphires, rubies, or the brilliance of lab-grown diamonds — introduces color and personality while retaining every ounce of ceremonial significance. Coloured stones also carry their own symbolism: sapphire for constancy and wisdom, ruby for warmth and joy.
- Wearability beyond the wedding day. The best sets are the ones a bride reaches for long after the wedding. Consider whether the necklace suits daily wear, whether the earrings work across different occasions, and whether the ring sits naturally alongside the rest of her jewelry.
- Budget. Our collections range from SGD $3,000 to over $12,000, reflecting genuine variation in materials, gemstone quality, and craft. The right investment is one that reflects both what the pieces are made of and what they will mean to the family for years to come.
