The Solitaire
One stone. Nothing to compete with it, nothing to diminish it. A solitaire engagement ring is the most considered choice in fine jewelry precisely because it demands quality at every point: the cut, the setting, the metal, and the craftsmanship that brings them together. At LeCaine Gems, every solitaire is built around a certified diamond chosen for its individual merits, not simply its grading report.

Why the Solitaire Endures
Trends in jewelry come and go. The solitaire does not follow them. Its appeal is rooted in restraint: a single well-chosen diamond, held cleanly in gold or platinum, speaks more quietly and more permanently than elaborately set alternatives. There is also a practical dimension. Without pavé stones or intricate metalwork, a solitaire ring is straightforward to clean, resize, and wear every day across decades without looking out of place.
From a financial standpoint, the solitaire is the most efficient use of a jewelry budget. Every portion of the investment goes toward the diamond itself. No carat weight is absorbed by surrounding stones, and no premium is paid for decorative metalwork that obscures the centre stone rather than celebrating it.
The 4 Cs, as They Apply to a Solitaire
The 4 Cs | What to Prioritise |
|---|---|
Cut | The only factor you should never compromise. An Excellent or Ideal cut grade determines everything visible about a diamond: its brightness, its fire, the way it holds your attention across a room. A well-cut stone of modest carat weight will outperform a poorly-cut larger stone on any measure that matters. |
Colour | G to H is the practical benchmark for most settings. Visually indistinguishable from colourless D to F once set, but meaningfully less expensive. For step-cut shapes such as emerald and Asscher, consider F to G, as their open table shows colour more readily. |
Clarity | VS1 to VS2 suits the majority of buyers. Inclusions at this grade are invisible without magnification, and the price difference versus VVS is substantial. SI1 can offer excellent value provided the inclusion sits towards the edge and is not reflective. |
Carat | Weight alone does not determine size. Shape and cut quality have an equal say in how large a diamond appears on the finger. A well-cut 0.90ct oval will face up larger than a 1.00ct round with a compromised cut. Prioritise cut; then select your carat range. |
Hearts and Arrows
A Hearts and Arrows diamond is a round brilliant cut to a precision beyond the standard Excellent grade. Viewed through a scope, eight hearts appear from the pavilion and eight arrows from the crown. Achieving this requires exacting symmetry in cutting and polishing, which few manufacturers pursue. The result is a diamond with stronger, more consistent light return, delivering brilliance that is crisp and directional.
How to Buy Your Solitaire Ring at LeCaine
1. Begin with shape and budget. If you are uncertain, a brief conversation with us before visiting often makes an in‑store appointment more focused and productive.
2. Book a consultation at Millenia Walk. While appointments are not required, they allow us to prepare a relevant selection and dedicate uninterrupted time to your brief.
3. In the showroom, you will have access to a loupe, an Idealscope viewer, and side‑by‑side comparisons under varied lighting. This is where certified grades translate into visible distinctions.
4. Select your diamond and setting. We will confirm the full specification in writing, including certificate number, metal, and style. Most bespoke solitaire rings are completed within 4 to 8 weeks.
