Indeed, the distinction between lab-grown diamonds and natural diamonds lies solely in tests conducted by jewelers with specialized equipment. Moreover, jewelers may work with accredited diamond grading labs that provide documentation. Without access to such specific tools, distinguishing between a lab-grown and a natural diamond becomes nearly impossible, as they share an indistinguishable appearance. The primary contrast lies in their origin: oneoriginates from deep within the Earth, while the other is cultivated in alaboratory setting.
Lab-grown diamonds showcase identical physical, chemical, and optical characteristics as their natural counterparts, displaying the same mesmerizing fire, scintillation, and sparkle. While lab-created diamonds may present varying trace elements compared to natural diamonds, these differences do notimpact the overall appearance of the diamond. -
No, lab-grown diamonds don’t turn yellow over time. Lab-grown and mined diamonds share the characteristic of not turning yellow or becoming cloudy as they age. Misconceptions surrounding diamonds and their properties often lead people to seek clarification. One prevalent myth suggests that lab-created diamond jewelry tends to fade over time. However, this claim is unfounded; the enduring brilliance of lab-created diamonds remains a testament to their longevity and quality, debunking common misconceptions about their luster.

No, you should not wear pearls in the shower.
Pearls are porous and can absorb water, which can cause them to become discolored or lose their luster. Additionally, the heat and humidity of a shower can weaken the glue that holds the pearl together, causing it to fall apart.
Here are some other situations where you should avoid wearing pearls:
- Swimming: Pool water has chlorine which can damage pearls, causing them to become brittle and fade.
- Soaking in a hot tub: Hot water and chemicals in a hot tub can also damage pearls.
- Applying makeup or hair products: The oils and chemicals in many makeup and hair products can stain or damage pearls.
- Cleaning or doing chores: Pearls are delicate. Abrasive surfaces and harsh chemicals can scratch or damage pearls.
If you do need to wear pearls in a humid or wet environment, it is best to remove them as soon as possible and clean them with a soft cloth and mild soap.

Moissanite is a sophisticated diamond alternative. It’s brilliance, sparkle, and hardness makes it identical to the diamond. In terms of sustainability and ethicality, our Moissanite exceeds that of the Diamond. Possessing compelling traits of being conflict-free and ethically sourced and developed, the Moissanite exerts a lower degree of impact to the environment and your finances.
Moissanite is composed of 50% carbon and 50% silicate and has a hardness of 9.25 on the Moh scale. This separates it from other diamond simulants that are composed of high carbon diamond replacements with lower hardness rating of 7.5-8.
Find out more about Moissanite.

-
There is no resale value for Moissanite nor for lab grown diamonds and gems at this point in time. However, the Moissanite’s popularity has been growing steadily over the years. An increasing demand for it can be witnessed in the jewellery market today.

Moissanite, a gemstone discovered by French chemist Henri Moissan in 1893, has gained popularity for its remarkable properties, making it a sought-after choice for jewelry, particularly engagement rings. Notable for its exceptional brilliance, moissanite boasts a higher refractive index than diamond and other gemstones, resulting in a dazzling sparkle often likened to fireworks or disco balls. Additionally, its high dispersion value contributes to a vibrant display of colors, enhancing its overall beauty. The gemstone's durability is another advantage, with a hardness rating slightly lower than diamond but still surpassing most other gemstones, ensuring resistance to scratches and daily wear.
Affordability is a significant factor in favor of moissanite, offering a cost-effective alternative to diamonds. Its various shapes and sizes produce a wide range of options at a fraction of the cost. Despite these advantages, moissanite faces drawbacks, such as its lack of rarity as a lab-created gemstone, potential color variations, and social perceptions that may label it as a diamond substitute. Ultimately, whether moissanite rings are worth it depends on individual preferences and values, making it crucial for buyers to conduct thorough research and comparisons with other options in the market.
To make an informed decision, potential buyers are encouraged to explore moissanite options in person, read customer reviews, and consult reputable jewelers, such as LeCaine Gems, or online platforms, like our website. Personal taste should guide the choice of a ring, emphasizing the importance of selecting a piece that aligns with one's style, preferences, and sentiment, regardless of societal perceptions or expectations. Our moissanite rings present an attractive and affordable option for those seeking a beautiful and enduring ring, offering a personalized symbol of love and commitment. -

Jewelers can use different tests and tools to determine if a diamond is lab-grown or natural. One common method involves using a DiamondView tester, which looks at the fluorescence of the diamond to reveal patterns that can indicate its origin.
Additionally, many jewelers collaborate with accredited diamond grading labs that offer detailed reports. These reports assess the diamond's quality and explicitly state whether it is natural or lab-grown. These labs use strict testing procedures and scientific analysis to validate the authenticity and origin of diamonds.
By combining these methods and working with reliable sources, jewelers can confidently determine whether a diamond is lab-grown or natural. This ensures that consumers get accurate information about the diamonds they buy, promoting transparency and trust in the jewelry industry. -
Purchasing lab-grown diamonds is considered a safe and ethical choice for those looking for an alternative to natural diamonds. These diamonds, cultivated in laboratories rather than extracted from the earth, come with the assurance of being conflict-free and environmentally sustainable. This is a significant advantage, as it eliminates the ethical concerns connected with mined diamonds, particularly the issue of conflict diamonds (or what are popularly known as "blood diamonds") that fund armed conflicts.
Lab-grown diamonds contribute to environmental conservation by reducing the environmental impact of traditional diamond mining. The process of creating these diamonds in a controlled lab environment typically requires less energy and generates lower carbon emissions compared to the extraction process of natural diamonds. As a result, choosing lab-grown diamonds aligns with environmentally conscious practices.
However, it's important to note that lab-grown diamonds are not the sole option for those seeking conflict-free choices. The majority of diamonds available in today's market adhere to the Kimberley Process, an international certification scheme established to prevent the entry of conflict diamonds into the market. Diamonds mined in Canada, for instance, are often regarded as both conflict-free and environmentally friendly due to stringent mining regulations and ethical practices.
Ultimately, whether it's lab-grown or naturally mined diamonds, consumers have various options to make ethically sound choices. The key lies in being well-informed about the origin of the diamonds and ensuring that the chosen option aligns with individual values regarding ethical and environmental considerations. -
Yes, you can shower with moissanite earrings. Moissanite is a tough and durable gemstone suitable for everyday wear, including exposure to water. However, removing them before showering is recommended to prevent residue buildup from shampoos and soaps, which can dull the stones over time. Additionally, there's a risk of damaging the stones if they accidentally hit or knock against hard surfaces in the bathroom. While removing them before showering may seem like a hassle, it's best for maintaining their cleanliness and longevity. If you prefer to leave them on, clean them regularly to prevent buildup.
-
Yes, lab-grown diamonds will pass inspection with a diamond tester. This is because they possess the same carbon composition as natural diamonds, resulting in similar thermal conductivity. Lab-grown diamonds yield positive results when subjected to a diamond tester because their physical and chemical properties are identical to natural diamonds.
However, it's worth noting that in some instances, lab-grown diamonds may contain lower nitrogen levels than natural diamonds. In such cases, the results from the tester might be negative. Nonetheless, this doesn't indicate that the diamond is fake. Regardless of the outcome, it's essential to understand that lab-grown diamonds exhibit chemical, physical, and optical characteristics akin to those of earth-mined diamonds.
-
No, lab-grown diamonds are typically 60% to 90% less expensive than natural diamonds. This significant price difference is attributed to the more efficient and cost-effective process of creating lab diamonds compared to mining natural ones. Generally, the larger the carat weight, the greater the price disparity between an otherwise identical natural and lab-grown diamond.
-
Lab-grown diamonds are considered a sustainable alternative for several reasons:
- Environmental Impact: Mining natural diamonds involves significant land disturbance, habitat destruction, and energy consumption. In contrast, lab-grown diamonds are produced in controlled environments using minimal energy and water, resulting in a significantly lower environmental footprint.
- Reduced Carbon Emissions: Mining and transporting natural diamonds contribute to greenhouse gas emissions. Opting for lab-grown diamonds, which require less energy and transportation, greatly reduces the carbon footprint associated with diamond production.
- Ethical Considerations: The diamond mining industry has faced scrutiny regarding human rights abuses, including exploitative labor practices and conflicts associated with "blood" or "conflict" diamonds. Lab-grown diamonds offer consumers a transparent and ethically sound alternative, as they are not associated with these issues.
- Conservation of Natural Resources: Mining natural diamonds requires the extraction of vast amounts of ore, leading to the depletion of natural resources. In contrast, lab-grown diamonds are produced using minimal carbon and do not deplete natural resources.

Yes! Lab-grown diamonds are available in various colors, like blue, gray, black, and orange. During the Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) process, a carefully formulated gas mixture is introduced into the reactor. By applying specific treatments at the end of the growth cyclescientists can cultivate a dazzling array of diamond colors.
-
Yes! Moissanite can exhibit a wide array of colors, including a green hue. Aside from green, moissanite can also be produced in other colors, such as gray, gold, brown, blue, pink, purple, and yellow. It can be produced in these colors through high-pressure, high-temperature (HPHT) treatment. Fine adjustments allow the manufacturer to satisfy diverse consumer preferences and provide different colors to fit all jewelry styles and designs.
-
Yes! Moissanite is known for having sparkle and brilliance superior to diamonds of a similar color. However, only high-quality manufactured grey moissanite has the same brilliance found in rare natural moissanite. LeCaine has access to the latest manufacturing techniques that result in brilliant grey moissanite stones.
LeCaine produces Moissanites that don’t experience fading and have stable and more permanent colors, unlike other companies that use a coating on moissanite, which fades.
-
Yes! Lab-created sapphires have value because of the rising trend in consumers' preference for sustainable, environment-friendly, and ethical products. The carbon footprint created by lab-created sapphires is much smaller than mining them.
-
Lab-grown diamonds are slightly harder than moissanite. Like their naturally mined counterparts, lab-grown diamonds rank a ten on the Mohs hardness scale, while moissanite is a 9.25. What does this mean for moissanite? Moissanite is still remarkably hard and is much harder than several popular gemstones, such as rubies (9) and emeralds (7.5 to 8).
However, despite their hardness, it is still necessary to care for your lab-grown diamond and moissanite jewelry to avoid damaging it. This includes storing them separately to prevent scratches from other hard items like house keys. It is also vital to clean them with gentle cleansers and a soft cloth, not abrasive materials.
-
Between moissanite and diamond of the same cut, moissanite is often described as "sparklier" because of its higher dispersion, which causes light to split into a rainbow of colors. Many people consider moissanite to have more "fire" than diamonds.
-
Yes! Moissanite, as well as lab-grown diamonds, can be resized and repaired using standard jewelry techniques.
-
No. Regardless of their origin (South Sea pearls, freshwater pearls, Tahitian pearls, etc.), they have a Mohs scale hardness between 2.5 and 4.5. Akoya pearls are prized for their luster, color, and shape, and not because of their relative hardness. Owning pearls, including Akoya, means taking immense caution to ensure they are free from scratches and damage.
